Roca launches a special edition of its jumpthegap® international design contest

Roca is offering a platform for creating and sharing ideas for the COVID19 scenario.

  • Looking for new innovative products or services, the contest, promoted by Roca, is a platform for architects and designers to show their talent.
  • The competition has established itself as a global reference point in design contests, after 8 editions with more than 25,000 participants from 150 countries.

With the outbreak of COVID-19, Roca has decided to launch a special edition of its international design competition jumpthegap®, this time focused on proposing new products or services related to the functions of the bathroom space, such as sanitation, hygiene, and wellbeing, but that could now be required in so many spaces, public or private, in a covid scenario.


Through this special edition, and aware of the determination and creativity of the architecture and design communities, Roca offers its international platform, so that in just fifteen days,   they can create and share proposals that give added value to the new needs of society, with the aim of generating ideas for a better future.

“We are facing a new scenario, a ‘new normal’, with new needs in all aspects related to personal hygiene, cleaning and disinfection, that will not be limited to the bathroom, but will spread further in other areas”
“The perception of users in regard to moving in a safe environment and using safe products, both at home and in the public sphere, will be vital in this new context and for this reason Roca launch this competition with a brief that is not only limited to the bathroom space ” said Xavier Torras, Roca Brand Communications Director.

jumpthegap®, with the collaboration of BCD -Barcelona Design Centre-, has held 8 editions to date, with more than 25,000 participants from 150 countries, and offers a platform where international architecture and design students and professionals can showcase their talent by providing innovative solutions.

Since its first edition, the jury of jumpthegap® has been notable for its relevance, gathering renowned professionals from the fields of architecture and design. This edition the jury is made up of Odile Hainaut and Claire Pijoulat, co-founders of WantedDesign (USA), Carl Hensman, Head of the Water, Sanitation and Hygiene program at the Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation (USA), Deborah Seward, Director United Nations Regional Information Centre, (Belgium), Luciano Kruk, founder of Luciano Kruk Arquitectos (Argentina), Isabel Roig, Executive Director of the Barcelona Design Center (Spain), Xavier Torras, Director of communication and brand for Roca (Spain), Jordi Corral, Roca Global Innovation Project Manager (Spain) and Ernest Hernandez, Design Director of Roca (Spain).

 

Key dates and registrations

Registration will be open on the official website www.jumpthegap.net from 8th to 23rd June 2020, which also forms the project submission period, with all submissions due before the end of this window. The 5 selected projects will be announced on the 23rd of July.  

 

Prizes

The competition will award 5 prizes of €1,000 each to the 5 selected projects.
