As part of the exhibition Power House: The Architecture of Data Centres, curator Clare Dowdy chaired a discussion on data centres’ future. The focus was on two concepts created especially for the show: Rachel Atthis, director of Arup, presenting Rethinking Oil Rigs; and Martin Wright, director of Scott Brownrigg, presenting Mixed Use and Up Close. These two visions were critiqued by Rennie Dalrymple, managing director of Concert, who are project managers, cost consultants and health & safety consultants for data centres. Marina Otero Verzier, architect and head of MA in Social Design at Design Academy Eindhoven, explored data centres as ‘post-human institutions’.
